Urban Farming Initiative and WCG
What is the Salt Lake County Urban Farming Initiative? We're so glad you asked.
In 2009, Salt Lake County began a new Urban Farming Initiative. Publicly owned lands that are currently lying fallow will be considered for lease for the purpose of growing fruits and vegetables. There are 30 parcels ranging in size from a quarter acre to 40 acres that will be available in early spring for community gardens, commercial farms and biofuel plots.
Recently, Wasatch Community Gardens has been in the news for participating in the Salt Lake County Urban Farming Initiative. The Salt Lake Tribune and the City Weekly have both published articles about our role and cooperation with the County. Click on the respective links above to read the articles.
