Allison's blog
The WCG Blog. We're Back and This Time, We Brought Friends.
Like a boomerang, the Wasatch Community Gardens wordpress blog has come back…and is better than ever. This time, we’ve asked well seasoned gardeners in the community to contribute to the blog. Look for posts and bios from Michael Mozdy (our former ED), Danny Potts (WCG founder), Jessica Sorenson (super volunteer and super blogger), Greg Brinkman (making the most of a large gardening pot), and Dara Michalski (local food adventurer).
We’re…hmmm…how do I say this?….a very eclectic group. We’re here to provide you with real, honest, informative, and entertaining gardening/food experiences. We hope you enjoy what we have to share with you. To check out the blog, click here!
Atlas Tree Service
Last week, Atlas Tree Service came to the Grateful Tomato Garden to do some serious and much needed tree trimming, all free of charge to Wasatch Community Gardens. Before Atlas Tree Service did their expert work, there were some places where we couldn't even see the blue sky through the trees. Now, there is infinitely more sunshine reaching our garden beds! A huge thank you to Atlas Tree Service! Click on "Read more" to see a handful of pictures documenting tree service in action!

February Gardening Tips: Seven Spectacular Seed Starting Tips

1. Keep a garden notebook. Keeping records from year to year will help you remember which seeds you ordered, which plants you grew and which were successful. You'll thank yourself next growing season.
Urban Farming Initiative and WCG
What is the Salt Lake County Urban Farming Initiative? We're so glad you asked.
In 2009, Salt Lake County began a new Urban Farming Initiative. Publicly owned lands that are currently lying fallow will be considered for lease for the purpose of growing fruits and vegetables. There are 30 parcels ranging in size from a quarter acre to 40 acres that will be available in early spring for community gardens, commercial farms and biofuel plots.
January Gardening Tip- Work On Your Garden In Winter
If you think that January is a time to forget about your garden, you are mistaken! Now is the perfect time to start ordering your seeds. If seed catalogs overwhelm you, come to the People's Market Seed Swap. It's an ideal place to exchange with others, share your own unique seed selections and find out about new ones.
