Choosing What to Grow
Before you order seeds in the early spring, draw up a quick map of your garden space on graph paper. Use the spacing guidelines for each type of plant, which can be found in reference books or on the seed packet itself. Then sketch the arrangement of the vegetables and herbs that you’d like to grow. This will help you visualize how many different types of plants you can fit in your space and decide which seeds you would like to order.
Fire Cider
This recipe is a favorite among our staff. The ingredients help boost your immune system. At the first tickle of a cold or flu, take a few tablespoons (with a little water if you’d need to dilute the strength). Continue as needed. It can also make a tasty salad dressing mixed with olive oil, or be used as a chest compress or rub for sore muscles.
Chop or grate fresh:
- 1/8 cup Garlic
- 1/2 cup Ginger
- 1/2 cup Onions
- 1/2 cup Horseradish root
- 4-6 sprigs of parsley-high in vitamin C
Add dried:

- 2lbs tomatoes (sweeter the better)
- 2- 2 1/2 lbs of peaches
- 1 bunch of cilantro
- 1 lg. red onion
- 1/2 lime
- 1 orange bell pepper
- spicy peppers (to taste!)
- honey (to taste)
