Canning and Food Preservation Workshop

Date:
Saturday, September 18, 2010 - 10:00am - 1:00pm
Location:

Viking Cooking School
2233 S 300 E
Salt Lake City, UT

Intimidated by the process of canning? Come to Viking Cooking School to learn the basics of canning what you have in the garden. We will have produce from our Youth Gardens and the Tree Utah Eco Garden fruit trees to teach you how to preserve your harvest through the winter.

We will be talking about how to use what you have in the garden for food preservation. The discussion will cover the importance of a clean workspace, proper food preparation, canning times for ingredient type and altitude, proper processing and checking, and proper storage. We will do some demonstrations of marinara sauce, salsa, preserving fruits using a water bath and preserving veggies using a pressure canner.
