September 9th Volunteer Day in the Garden!

Bring your family and friends and help us prepare for our annual Tomato Sandwich Party! We'll be doing general garden maintenance in anticipation of the 500 or so people who will be attending the Tomato Sandwich Party. 

Please bring a water bottle and gloves if you have them!

Tomato Sandwich Party Volunteer!

 Volunteer and help us celebrate our annual Tomato Sandwich Party. Volunteers will help with a variety of tasks including slicing beautiful heirloom tomatoes, making sandwiches, running kid's activities and helping out with tomato taste testing.

Volunteers will also have the chance to eat as many tomato sandwiches as they'd like and enjoy the party!

FREE Community Event!

Enjoy an afternoon at the Grateful Tomato Garden with friends and neighbors, and sample our amazing heirloom tomato harvest. We will be serving unique varieties of heirloom tomatoes grown by our Youth Gardening program, with homemade pesto made from our homegrown basil, and fresh locally made bread. You would be hard pressed to find a better tomato sandwich party in the city. We will also have live music and fun kids activities. So, bring the family and join us for a celebration of the harvest and our community!

Food Fermentation and Cheese Making

Join Wasatch Community Gardens in the kitchen for a fun and exciting fermentation primer. We will do a hands-on demonstration on cheese making. We will talk about 30 minute mozzarella and ricotta, and paneer. We will also talk about fermentation processes required for making kefir, piima, kombucha and lacto-fermentation of vegetables. We will go over sanitation of equipment, applying the culture and timing. Bring your own container to take home your homemade cheese.

Canning and Food Preservation Workshop

Intimidated by the process of canning? Come to Viking Cooking School to learn the basics of canning what you have in the garden. We will have produce from our Youth Gardens and the Tree Utah Eco Garden fruit trees to teach you how to preserve your harvest through the winter.

1st Annual - Grateful Tomato Weed and Feed

Date & Time: 
9/23/10 - 5:30pm - 8:00pm

Celebrate the autumnal equinox in the garden where we will put the gardens to rest for the season by harvesting, weeding, mulching and composting. We will follow up our hard work with good conversation, friends and delicious food. All volunteers who have participated in the gardens this season, as well as those waiting for the perfect moment to join us, are encouraged to attend. Bring your friends and family! Also bring a water bottle and garden gloves if you have them. Come hungry and ready to work!

Pumpkinfest Volunteer!

Join us at the Historic Sandy Garden's annual Pumpkinfest! The Sandy community gardeners have spent the season tending their large pumpkin patch and will be selling rare and heirloom varieties of pumpkins and gourds as well as carving pumpkins.

Volunteer for this event and help with set up, kid's activities, cashiering and more!

+ Volunteers can choose their favorite pumpkin for free!

Winter Gardening Workshop

Salt Lake City is a great place to be a vegetable gardener. But, did you know that you can harvest all year round by using the proper season extenders? Or, that you can build up your garden beds and replenish the soil by growing cover crops and green manure, or by using different mulching techniques? Join Wasatch Community Gardens at our Grateful Tomato Garden to lear what to do in the garden late in the season to keep producing food all winter long.
