People's Portable Garden

Description

Wasatch Community Gardens, in cooperation with the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City and the residents of the West Temple Gateway neighborhood, opened a new, temporary community garden, called "The People's Portable Garden" at 900 S 200 W, Salt Lake City. Click here to apply for a plot.

The Concept of Temporary Gardens

Temporary gardens are a new model to grow food and build community in otherwise unused places, and are designed to be easily relocated once the land becomes ready for development. This new garden will provide a space for community members to grow their own healthy, organic produce, and make connections with other members of their community as they work, exercise, and learn together.

Events

City leaders and representatives from Wasatch Community Gardens and the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City celebrated the opening of this new garden with a "first planting" ceremony on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
