Summer In A Jar Canning Series: We Can Pickle That!

Description

Summer In A Jar Canning Series is co-sponsored by Wasatch Community Gardens, Urban Food Connections of Utah, & Slow Food Utah, hosted at Harmon’s City Creek. Learn to preserve your fresh produce.

Are you overwhelmed by the onslaught of cucumbers in your bountiful garden and can't possibly eat them all fresh from the garden? Do your neighbors run and hide when you start to handout your extra cukes and squash? Do you miss having crunchy garden veggies in the middle of winter?

If you answered "yes" to any of these, then you need to learn to pickle!

Come join us at Harmon's City Creek in their fabulous teaching kitchen and let Alison Einerson, canner extraordinaire and Manager of the Downtown Farmer's Market, teach us how to pickle the best of the week's market harvest. She'll instruct us on proper water bath canning practices, and we'll use some of the coolest spices, herbs and brines so you can preserve your own summer delights!

Each student will take home the working knowledge to make pickles, along with a jar of homemade goodness and a few pickling recipes.
