Putting Your Garden To Bed

Description

Our summer crops are nearly done producing, we've sown our fall crops, and the first fall frost is right around the corner. What should we be doing in our gardens now that it's mid-October? Come join WCG as we tour the Grateful Tomato Garden and review all the tasks we should be doing to prep our gardens for winter. Topics will include clearing spent crops, soil testing, choosing and adding amendments, mulching, cover cropping, and planning ahead for your 2017 garden. Come prepared to pull out tomato plants, collect a soil sample for soil testing, and add some soil amendments to the demo garden beds. Cost: $10

The following weekend (separate registrations required), we will have our final two fall gardening workshops of the year:  (1) Garlic Planting and Growing, with Farmer Pete Rasmussen of Sandhill Farms, and (2) Winter Gardening:  Garlic, Cover Crops and Low Tunnels, where we will plant some garlic, sow some winter cover crop, and install a double-layered low tunnel over our fall-sown lettuces, radishes, kale, and carrots.
