Partnerships, Growth, and Feeding the Community
Wasatch Community Gardens’ Farm-Based Job Training Program offers opportunities for growers and community members to grow their skills in an urban farm setting through on-the-job training. By utilizing a cohort model, the Farm Incubator and Green Team programs support participants to develop new skills and strengthen existing skills, cultivate strong work habits, build their confidence, develop and practice key social and emotional skills, and achieve other personal goals. Our program helps connect participants to available local resources including financial education and literacy, supportive social service agencies, and others in response to participants’ needs. The interactions that occur on the Farm between participants and the broader community are invaluable to their success in building personal and professional connections that can support them in their future goals.
As a participant in WCG’s Job Training Program, folks learn hands-on through real-world experiences such as growing 45,000+ seedlings for community distribution through our Spring Plant Sale, maintaining and stewarding land with the purpose of producing organically-grown food, and connect with people and resources needed to grow in their respective fields. Collectively, participants are contributing to a stronger, more resilient local food system.
The Job Training Program takes place across multiple sites in Salt Lake City including City Farm on 1300 South, Farm Incubator Group Site (FIGS), and WCG’s Farm Hub on Utah Street.
