Job Training Program

The Job Training Program provides employment, job training, and mentoring for women living in poverty, while simultaneously revitalizing an underutilized urban area. The program takes place at the 1.4-acre Green Phoenix Farm (formerly called the Green Team Farm) at 622 W 100 S, on property owned by the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake. The program has two components: Green Team and Seeds of Success.

The Green Team (started in 2016) is a 10-month program that provides farm-based employment and mentoring for women who are experiencing homelessness. Participants study organic agriculture techniques, rediscover and cultivate a solid work ethic, and work to restore their sense of confidence, while growing and eating fresh, healthy food. The program is a partnership between Wasatch Community Gardens (WCG), Advantage Services, and The Downtown Alliance.

Seeds of Success (started in 2019) is a 10-week job training and placement program for single mothers living in poverty. Participants receive free job training through an outside trainer, along with job placement assistance in high-demand career fields. Participants work alongside Green Team participants at the farm during a two-week orientation and have regular skills development days at the farm throughout the program. The program is a partnership between WCG and Climb Wyoming, a nonprofit with over 30 years of experience moving families out of poverty.
