2019 Join the Bat Squad!

Description

Bat Week in an annual, international celebration of the role of bats in nature.  In this family workshop called "Join the Bat Squad," parents and children will learn all about bats as important garden friends and predators of night-flying insects.  We will learn from BLM Wildlife Biologist Emily Jencso how we can protect the bats living in our backyards and in our communities.  See below for a photo and a little introduction to Emily.

Class includes several fun activities for the kids and a tasting of a recipe made with bat-dependent ingredients!

Emily Jencso is currently a wildlife biologist for the Salt Lake Field Office, Bureau of Land Management. Emily grew up back east on the Chesapeake Bay and was always fascinated by wildlife. However, it wasn't until a biology class at University of Texas San Antonio that Emily learned that jobs such as hers existed. She has been lucky enough to study and collect data on wildlife species all over the west including Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Alaska, Wyoming, and of course Utah. Utah is now Emily's home, and she's enjoying being reacquainted with the sagebrush sea and pinyon juniper of the West Desert. Emily looks forward to sharing her passion for wildlife through getting all of us excited about Utah's bats and how to protect bats living in OUR backyard and community.
