2026 Foundations in Organic Vegetable Gardening: A 5-Part Series in Growing Your Own Food

This five session extended course has been designed to provide you with a thorough background in organic gardening principles, soil building techniques, site planning/garden design, seasonal crop selection, and much more - all at a great bundled price! In addition to the four in-class presentations, this series includes a Wasatch Community Garden Campus tour during the growing season to observe various seasonal gardening topics and discuss your own garden challenges with our instructor.  The tour will also include healthy garden snacks that you can make easily at home with basic ingredients!

Session 1, Soil Night: Tuesday, February 17,  6:30pm-8:30pm

Overview of organic gardening and regenerative agriculture, understanding soil, and garden site preparation 

 

Session 2, Crop Night: Tuesday, February 24, 6:30pm-8:30pm

Crop terminology, warm and cool season crops, and choosing and planting seeds and transplants 

 

Session 3, Growing Night: Tuesday, March 3,  6:30pm-8:30pm

Intensive planting methods, vertical gardening, succession planting, and companion planting

 

Session 4, Garden Challenges Night: Tuesday March 10,  6:30pm-8:30pm

Evaluating sun, soil, water and air within your garden and how it affects pests 

 

Session 5, Spring Garden Tour and Q&A: Saturday April 18, 10am-12pm

Starting seeds in soil blocks, taking soil samples, and opportunity to discuss issues affecting your own garden
