Family Garden Gatherings is a bilingual family engagement program in partnership with Title 1 schools in the Salt Lake City School District. This weekly program engages with predominantly Latine/Hispanic families in gardening, multi-generational learning, and community building. Programming takes place weekly in the spring, summer, and fall in the garden, kitchen, or outdoor gathering spaces at participating schools. The FGG Program also facilitates occasional Community Events such as Salsa Fiesta, Earth Day celebrations, and Wednesday Walkthroughs of the garden spaces! Many of the participating families are also involved with our Sabores de mi Patria Program.
Our current FGG partners are Escalante Elementary School, and the Glendale Community Learning Center, which encompasses Mountain View Elementary School and Glendale Middle School.
FGG Internship Program
The Family Garden Gatherings program also utilizes interns hired from the family and school communities to support the programming. These folks are predominantly Spanish-speaking, and through the internship learn mentorship and program facilitation skills to share their knowledge, develop programs that they are passionate about, and support the WCG team and school communities.
