School Field Trips

Wasatch Community Gardens’ field trips are designed to meet the standards and objectives of the Utah State Core Curriculum for grades K-5, focusing on science and nutrition through a hands-on experience in our downtown Grateful Tomato Garden. Each field trip is two hours (Kindergarten field trips are 90 minutes) and includes a garden tour, healthy snack, and seasonal grade level specific activity led by Wasatch Community Gardens' experienced youth educators.

Our school field trips run Tuesday-Friday in late spring and early fall. All classes are held, weather permitting, at the Grateful Tomato Garden (615 East 800 South, Salt Lake City). (Note: school field trips are currently on hold in light of evolving COVID considerations and to accommodate construction at our Wasatch Community Gardens' Campus - the home of our Grateful Tomato Garden.)

Field trip size is limited to 35 students (25 for kindergarten), and 1 adult is required for every 10 students (1 adult per 5 students for kindergarten).  Additional chaperones may enter free of charge. Reservations are required for all school groups.

Title 1 schools are eligible for a $100 bus reimbursement. There are a limited number of reimbursements available. Please indicate in your request if you are seeking reimbursement for this expense.
