2022 In-Person Class: Tomato Pruning & Cloning

Description

In this in-person, hands-on workshop in WCG's teaching gardens, students will learn bottom pruning and sucker pruning techniques while practicing on WCG's tomato plants.  You will learn the ins and outs of pruning on our special trial variety tomatoes as well as on our vast assortment of cherry tomato plants that will produce delicious summer snacks for our Youth and School Garden Program all season long.  It's an extravaganza of pruning opportunities!  Students will also observe the various caging structures and trellising techniques that the participants in our June 18th workshop will have installed.

New this year is a special bonus section of the workshop where students will learn how to clone tomato plants!  Tomatoes have many magical powers, and one of them is their ability to be cloned by savvy gardeners who want duplicate plants (two or more tomato plants for the price of one!).  Marybeth and Katie Sue will show you the process, and each student will get to take home a tomato clone baby or two to plant into your own garden!

Please come dressed for being outside and for working in the garden, and feel free to bring garden gloves if you have a favorite pair.  Please come prepared with sunscreen, water bottle, and don't forget your mask in case we need to don those :-)

This workshop has a limited number of spots available and is expected to sell out quickly.  No walk-ins permitted the day of class, so please register online ahead of time.

If heavy rain is expected, we may cancel THE DAY BEFORE the event via EMAIL, so please check your email inbox (and SPAM folder) if the weather looks iffy!
