2022: Fall Cover Crops

Description

In this in-person, hands-on workshop in WCG's teaching gardens, students will learn all about fall cover crops, practice sowing fall cover crop seeds, and receive a sample of fall cover crop seeds to take home.

NOTE:  This workshop has been rescheduled from October 1st to October 15th.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Have you heard about cover crops but aren't sure what they are or which ones to grow in the fall vs. the spring or summer?  Would you like to know more about how they contribute to your garden's health and your vegetable plants' productivity?  Or are you interested in learning how they can fit into crop rotation cycles?  If so, then this is the workshop you've been looking for!

October is the perfect time of year to sow fall cover crops, so come and learn what you should be doing now to improve your garden over the winter for next year.  We'll review different types of cover crops and their benefits to your soil, and during class, we'll get some hands-on experience matching inoculants to seeds, mixing up inoculant slurries, and sowing some cover crops in the teaching gardens.  Each student will go home with a bit of cover crop seed to try in their home garden.

Please come dressed for being outside (e.g., bring layers) and for working in the garden, and feel free to bring garden gloves if you have a favorite pair.  Please come prepared with sunscreen, water bottle, etc.

This hands-on workshop has a limited number of spots available.  No walk-ins are permitted the day of class, so please register on line ahead of time.

If heavy rain is expected, we may cancel THE DAY BEFORE the event via EMAIL, so please check your email inbox (and SPAM folder) if the weather looks iffy!

Instructor:  Katie Sue Mulliken

Cost:  This workshop is $25.

Discounted rates available to community gardeners with WCG or the WCG Network.

Pre-Registration is required.

NOTE: We offer reduced-tuition scholarships for low-income individuals.  If you would like to apply, please fill out and submit our scholarship application before continuing the on-line registration process.
