2022 In Person Workshop: Garlic Planting & Cultivation

Description

Join us for the final workshop of 2022!

In this in-person, hands-on workshop in WCG's teaching gardens, students will learn all about planting and growing garlic to achieve the best results.

Students will be able to shop for beautiful locally grown seed garlic (cash only) after class for $2 to $2.50 per bulb, depending on size.  Hardneck variety is Nita (turban type), and softneck variety is Inchelium Red (artichoke type).  Very limited quantities available.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Dreaming of a treasure trove of chunky heads of garlic but don't know how to choose varieties for planting?  Maybe you've tried growing garlic, but your harvest was disappointing, or the bulbs didn't last well in storage?

If so, then this is the workshop you've been waiting for!  The hands-on experience with clove planting depth, spacing, and orientation is just the preparation you need to plant the garlic row of your dreams at home.  In class, we'll cover soil preparation, planting hole amendments, irrigation, fertilization, scape harvesting, and more.

This class is scheduled on a Saturday afternoon, from 2 pm to 4 pm.  No refunds can be issued unless a replacement can be found to take your spot.  Class size is limited, and this class usually sells out quickly.  There are no walk-ins permitted the day of class, so please register online ahead of time.

Please come dressed for being outside (e.g., bring layers) and for working in the garden.  We will provide kneeling pads, but please bring garden gloves if you have a favorite pair and like to wear gloves in the garden.  Please bring your own sunscreen, water bottle, etc.

If heavy rain is expected, we may cancel THE DAY BEFORE the event via EMAIL, so please check your email inbox (and SPAM folder) if the weather looks iffy!

Instructors:  Marybeth Janerich and Katie Sue Mulliken

Cost:  This workshop is $25.  Purchases of locally-adapted seed garlic after class are cash only.  Please bring exact change ($1 bills and quarters!).

Discounted rates available to community gardeners with WCG or the WCG Network.

Pre-Registration is required.

NOTE: We offer reduced-tuition scholarships for low-income individuals.  If you would like to apply, please fill out and submit our scholarship application before continuing the on-line registration process.
