NEW! 2025 Growing Great Peppers

Description

Are you pepper obsessed or simply pepper-curious? In this workshop, we’ll cover the recent explosion of varieties, seed-starting and planting tips, growing requirements, techniques to support optimal growth, sometimes-controversial pruning methods, pest and disease troubleshooting, recipe ideas, and more! Next season you’ll be able to more confidently apply what you’ve learned to help those new little seedlings thrive. Urban Pepper Project’s Shirley Steinmacher will take you on a tour of her farm where she is growing more than 100 varieties of peppers, from super sweet to super heat. You’ll have the pepper passion by the time you leave if you didn’t already arrive afflicted.

 About our instructor:

Shirley is the founder of Urban Pepper Project, LLC, a vibrant chapter following a 30-year career as a professional geologist. Motivated by the pandemic’s impact on the food system, she turned her lifelong love of growing food into a full-time farming venture, specializing in peppers, tomatoes, beans, squash, and other summer produce. Now in her tenth year growing peppers, third year of farming at Cressfarm in Millcreek, Utah, and her fifth year hosting the Urban Farmer Plant Sale, Shirley shares her passion for unusual and heirloom plants with the local community. When not farming, she enjoys sailing, backpacking, and advocating for local food systems.
