U-Pick-It Supper: Heart & Soul of Summer

Description

Seasonal summer garden cooking classes offered by Wasatch Community GardensIn our spring & summer WCG workshops, students planted carrots, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, potatoes, onions and more in the Community Education Program’s demonstration garden taught by our fabulous Marybeth Janerich. Now it's time to harvest some of these yummy crops and prepare a few simple recipes using these fresh garden ingredients.

In this workshop, we'll talk about what's ready to harvest in July, the specific varieties that were grown in the demo garden and why they were chosen. Then we'll do some harvesting together.

Once we've harvested what we need for our Heart & Soul of Summer supper, we'll gather in the outdoor kitchen area and each take a hand in chopping, rinsing, slicing, dicing, boiling, stirring, and sauteing, following a few simple summer produce-focused recipes. Then we'll set the table and enjoy our fresh dinner together under the pergola. Everyone will get to take home a copy of the recipes we prepared in class.

While the menu items will be vegetarian, they will not be vegan, gluten-free, or dairy-free.  Local cheese will be included in the recipes.

The final menu may not be determined until the day before the event (based on what's looking best for harvest), but we can promise that the supper will be inspirational and delicious!
