Kimberly Yapias

Kimberly is excited to serve as the School and Family Garden Manager! As a liaison between Wasatch Community Gardens and the Salt Lake City School District, she grows relationships, maintains healthy gardens, and creates a sustainable school garden program with support from the district.

Kimberly graduated in Spring 2021 from the University of Utah with a degree in Biology and minor in Environmental Sustainability Studies. During her undergrad, she worked with the Salt Lake City School District as a summer school group leader and as a site coordinator for Utah Reads. Through Utah Reads, she worked closely with the Glendale Mountainview Community Learning Center in their after-school program and learned about the importance of community support and engagement when it comes to schools and kids.

Gardening became important to Kimberly when she became involved in the Hartland Gardens project for an environmental justice class. From this project, she learned how much impact and uses a community garden can have by providing a community with healthy produce and creating even more opportunities than she could’ve imagined. Post-graduation, she was able to work in the Glendale Community Garden, which further sprouted her love for gardening.

When she is not learning the tips and tricks of gardening, you can find her cooking dinner with her family, socializing with friends, painting/drawing, and playing with random dogs.
