What is the School Garden Program?
WCG’s School Garden Program aims to be a resource for schools and garden leaders in the Salt Lake valley to support sustainable school gardens. WCG strategically supports these garden communities in the three fundamentals of sustainable school gardens:
- Programming: WCG provides educators with programming support including educational classroom resources and activities for use in the garden, and is looking forward to providing professional development opportunities for educators to get comfortable with classroom management and garden integration into curriculum. Some school gardens also host our Family Garden Gatherings program.
- Leadership: WCG provides garden communities with consultations and resources to start garden committees, connect with stakeholders, and involves students and families in the garden to ensure success.
- Space: WCG provides suggestions and consultations for productive garden space, including plant lists, seeds, seedlings, and other resources.
WCG works in partnership with Salt Lake City School District and the Salt Lake Education Foundation to act as a liaison between school garden communities and school district stakeholders to support sustainable communication and maintenance of existing school gardens within the SLCSD.

School Garden Leadership Network
The School Garden Leadership Network is available to educators, administrators, and community members in the Salt Lake City School District, and Salt Lake Valley that are interested in being part of a group focused on further developing their school gardens or have a general interest in school gardens. The goal of this network is to create a group where members can connect, receive guidance and resources from WCG, know what other school gardens are doing, and dialogue on specific school garden topics.
Stay tuned for our 2026 School Garden Leadership Network meeting dates!
