Wasatch Community Gardens - Farm Hub on Utah Street

Farm Hub on Utah Street

Located at 1425 Utah Street in Salt Lake City, the Farm Hub is a preserved 1.5-acre agricultural space in Salt Lake City's historic Glendale neighborhood. Managed and owned by Wasatch Community Gardens (WCG), this land is dedicated to sustainable local farming, community education, and small-business incubation.

Preserving Productive Green Space

Wasatch Community Gardens is helping ensure that agriculture remains at the heart of the Glendale community for generations to come. Since 2024, the 1.5-acre site, historically part of the neighborhood’s unique agricultural landscape, has been permanently protected through a conservation easement in partnership with Utah Open Lands. This protection means the land must remain in agricultural use in perpetuity, safeguarding productive green space from future urban development. The conservation easement also prioritizes agriculture on the property, preserving the character of the site while allowing Wasatch Community Gardens to continue cultivating the land and serving the surrounding community.

The site will continue to look and function much as it has historically, with growing space, a greenhouse, and an education barn serving as the core of the farm. A single-family home is also part of the parcel. Wasatch Community Gardens is currently assessing the home and completing repairs and property maintenance, with the goal of renting it as affordable housing once the work is complete.

Programming at Farm Hub

In the near term, the primary focus at the Farm Hub will be Wasatch Community Gardens’ Farm Incubator Program (FIP). The program supports small farm businesses by lowering barriers to entering and remaining in the field of agriculture through education, land access, job training, and community resources. The Farm Hub will support the Farm Incubator Program through eight farmlette growing sites where small farmers can learn, collaborate, and build connections with other farmers and members of the local food system. Over time, the Farm Hub will also be home to Wasatch Community Gardens’ Job Training Program’s Green Team which supports women experiencing homelessness through transitional employment and case management. Together, these programs will contribute to a more abundant and sustainable local food system.

What’s Next?

Wasatch Community Gardens is committed to being a good neighbor and honoring the agricultural history of the Glendale “agrihood.” Many WCG staff members live and grow in the immediate vicinity, and the organization is grateful for the opportunity to share space and contribute to the agricultural community along Utah Street.
