Would you like to make your own compost but don’t have the outdoor space? Are you tired of your kitchen scraps going to the landfill? Do you already compost but want to do more to create rich fertile garden soil?
If so, then please come join Wasatch Community Gardens at our Grateful Tomato Garden to learn how to make compost indoors and year-round using worms! Kate Whitbeck is back this year to teach us about vermicomposting basics and what the benefits are of adding worm castings to your garden.
After going over some basics, we'll meet some "red wigglers" up close! We'll practice sorting worms from their castings, so plan to get a wee bit dirty during this part of the workshop!
For those staying to make their own worm bins to take home, we'll make some fresh bedding for our red wigglers and make our worm bins with a variety of supplies and a drill.
Workshop alone is $10.
Workshop including making your own worm bin with worms and bedding is $10 plus a special fee of $40 to cover cost of supplies (1/2 pound of red wigglers from local Utah worm farm, fresh peat moss/newspaper/soil/sand bedding, and 10 gallon worm bin with drainage, air holes, and lid), for a total of $50. This is a bargain given how pricey the red wigglers are!
Pre-registration Required.
No walk-ins permitted the day of the workshop.
NOTE: Because of the cost of supplies and limited number of spaces available in this class, no refunds will be issued if a cancelled spot cannot be filled prior to class.
