Melanie (she/her) came to Wasatch Community Gardens through the Job Training Program for women experiencing homelessness, after a difficult divorce left her and her daughter without housing or support. She later taught in the Youth & School Program, and progressed to Grants Manager. Melanie believes in the power of gardening to heal individuals and communities.
Prior to having children, her career was in international finance. Melanie’s travels, background in economics, and experience with homelessness, fuel her passion for social justice. She’s started and installed a community garden in low income apartments, maintains her own WCG plot, and volunteers to help others get started growing food. In addition to gardening, she’s an avid skier, loves fly fishing and paddle boarding. She lives with her daughter and a rambunctious bird dog.
