2020 All Abuzz: How to Attract Native Bees, with Laura Horn

Description

NOTICE:  This workshop is going to be broadcast via GoToWebinar. This class will NOT be held in person in a classroom.

In light of the COVID 19 pandemic, Wasatch Community Gardens understands that this virus poses a significant health risk to many in our community. Please note that we are evaluating our options for upcoming events and meetings and will be in contact with those who are participating to either transition to an online version, or to postpone or cancel in line with the recommendations of local health officials.

Founder of the Wild Bee Project, Laura Horn provides a wealth of information in this workshop about pollinating bees that do not live in honeybee hives, such as bumblebees, carpenter bees, mason bees, squash bees, sweat bees, green metallic bees, and leafcutter bees.  These fascinating bees can be excellent pollinators, and the more we understand about their nesting practices and food sources, the better able we are as gardeners to take advantage of their services. Laura will familiarize us with some of the more common native bees and teach us what to plant to maximize their presence in our gardens.

Students will go home with a comprehensive list of flowers, herbs and other plants that provide food and habitat for native bees.

This will be our first time offering this workshop in a webinar format, so we appreciate your patience with us as we navigate this new technology.
